It's a family affair!

Friday 31st August marked the end of a stressful week as my hubby, fellow Tower Hamlets Cllr Phil Briscoe, won the selection battle to to be adopted as the CONS GLA candidate for City and East which borders my Lambeth & Southwark GLA constituency.

After finishing runner-up 4 years ago he was determined nothing would go wrong, but given his London wide knowledge, experience & grasp of policy, the only thing worrying me was nerves kicking in as he addressed his "home crowd".

In the end though it was me who felt sick with nerves as I awaited his turn. Clearly unfazed, he stormed in and set out his agenda, taking strong positions on every issue raised and bursting with passion to rid us of Livingstone as I sat, (apparently putting him off pulling worried faces), feeling helpless in the audience.

As the votes were being counted I watched the piles grow like any other count, feeling more confident as a gap opened, and was relieved as he was declared "a clear winner".

The evening celebrations with supporters from the 7 City & East constituencies ended at 2am in Andre Walker's great Tory hangout "Melaka", Malaysian restaurant in Narrow Street, marking a perfect ending to the week.

10am this morning saw us go our separate ways as our weekend campaigning began!
